Long Time, Time to See.

Hey all, it’s been a while since a post has straggled down this path.  To our two and a half readers, please pardon us.  Life is busy, but should never be too busy to share a good word or even better, THE good word.

You know, for a while now most of the messages shared with us by our own Pastor Matthew and of guest speakers has been about ours (yours, mine, his, hers) purpose; that is to say, the plan for our lives that God has for us if we pursue His will, and with it a sure path to changing this world for the better; for our own good; for the good of others; and for His glory.  It’s hard to figure out what that’s gonna look like for ourselves.  But, what’s great is that it does not have to be patterned after someone else.  God’s imaginative enough to create a unique yet equally powerful plan for every single one of our lives.

Enchantment by Marc Chagall

I was perusing the internet and, of course, Google came into play (what was life like before Google? Does anyone remember?).  I love the little colorful way they decorate their signage commemorating holidays or even artists’ birthdays, like our painter-friend, dear Marc Chagall, born 7.7.1887.  (good numbers, huh? three 7’s.)

Contrary to popular sentiment regarding the somber source of truly influential art, Chagall’s work celebrated blessings and with vibrant color he relayed his optimism as “an observer of the world through a stained glass window.”  And was even criticised for taking such a sunny stance.  How dare you be a talented artist…and be content!!?

Anyway, I just thought he’d be a great known artist to share.  He bucks the tortured trend.  He’s good at what he does.  And, through his “uncategorizable” style of art he shared with us his unabashed embrace of his Jewish culture and beliefs. 

That takes guts.

*Amazing short films: (1) a live-action drama “The Bridge“ and (2) an animated dramatization, “Everyday Life

I know we complain about the high cheese factor of alot of Christian entertainment, but these pieces are two very diverse examples of how the message of Jesus Christ can be both heartfelt and presented skillfully and succinctly.

Hip Hop and You Don’t Stop

 

So I was on the bus, watching their television, drooling because that’s what you do when you’re on the bus and staring blankly at the sparkly screen flashing before you on your way to some stop.  Suddenly, a clip flashed of some break dancers and it got me thinking…which is a good alternative to drooling.  The clip compelled me to reflect on the video I’d just watched the day before covering graffiti techniques (I’ve never been into spray art, but the tutorial video “G4: Graffiti Techniques,” may have won me over.)   I thought about how the two different expressions related.

Hip-hop culture has been distilled down to pants, rap and rear-shakin’ dancing.  But, genuine hip-hop heads have expressed that that’s not how it started.  Hip-Hop was not a gimmick or an image, but a lifestyle.

I’d been steadily seeking in my heart the right way to approach the vision that God’s shared with me of a Christ-centered art renaissance and, just then, it dawned on me that that was the response.

Because, worship is not a 9-5 thing.  It’s not something you wear and take-off.  It’s not a song that lifts you up out of a bad moment.  It is the way you look at the world, the way you live in that world.  The way you interact with people, the way you love, the way you hurt, the way you heal.  It is life, and it is that culture that our work will reflect.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Eph. 4:17-19 NIV

ArT AttAcK WeeKenD!

Hi Everyone!  And, hope your Thanksgiving was delicious!

But, the festivities aren’t over yet…

Next week will kick-off Gigatt’s ArT AttAcK WeeKenD (Fri. Nov. 30th – Sun. Dec. 2nd)

This is our first ever event like this, so we could use as much friendly participation as you can muster up!

For all you crazy cats out there who wanna dig this groovy scene.  Bring your work or just yourself and treat your buds to those crazy savory Starbucks drinks, available at Terrace Cafe.  Music, Short Story, Poetry and Lyrics allowed.  All work will be perused before going onstage to ensure appropriateness for our audience.  This little hot spot is nestled on the grounds of the DreamCenter and can be a little tricky to find.  Just look up the directions and keep my number handy.

Bell Pepper tree trunks and spinach leaves.  A pepperoni sea lined by sandy parmesan shores.  I’ve sometimes seen art so delicious I wanted to gobble it up.  Now, we can.  Make tasteful MasterPizzas that satisfy both the artist’s eye, and your stomach’s!  Dough and toppings provided.  BYOI (Bring your own imagination).
